Faced with new technologies and rapidly evolving ways of consuming content, traditional teaching models have struggled to hold students’ attention—a challenge that cannot be overcome without significant changes.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, these problems were exacerbated. Schools and teachers were not familiar with the use of educational technologies, and many struggled to implement tools that would allow them to create virtual learning environments.
By limiting themselves to adapting the traditional teaching model, many schools had difficulty helping their students learn. They delivered classes and materials that did not undergo proper pedagogical transposition, with low-quality recordings and even the continued use of blackboards, even when digital services capable of presenting content in a much more dynamic and enjoyable way are available.
Observing these difficulties that schools have been facing, several companies began to develop and offer solutions to help teachers deliver content in a more interesting way, increasing student engagement and satisfaction with learning.
EdTechs – companies that develop educational technologies – have come to stay and, in recent years, have dominated the market with solutions that bring teaching closer to the digital world. Today, the market is being bombarded with software, apps, and services promising quality, content, and satisfaction.

Nivelamento Online emerged in 2019 as a response to these questions.
A game that can be used both on computers and mobile devices, Nivelamento Online brings a story that puts students in charge of exploring galaxies of content. Its gamified system of questions and answers features videos, tips, missions, a progression system, rewards, and rankings, aiming to improve engagement and consequently the performance of the student-player throughout the resolution of questions.
The game assists in learning, provides challenges, and interactivity through its game design, content division, and learning evaluation and gamification system that allows the assessment and improvement of the player’s learning in a personalized way.
The results are proven. Through award-winning academic articles, it has been demonstrated that students feel more stimulated to learn in a dynamic environment, different from what they are familiar with, even if the content covered is similar. The motivational aspect of Nivelamento Online was able to directly influence students’ perception of learning. It is worth noting that the adopted game design elements, such as immediate feedback and items that provided tips, elimination of alternatives, and question exchange, were significant for interaction with the content.
In addition to meeting the demands for educational technologies, Nivelamento Online has emerged to meet the National Curriculum Guidelines and also the New High School. Each part of the game was carefully developed to promote learning and engagement for student players, as demonstrated.
